I know attending pole dancing classes can be scary, but it can also be an incredibly empowering and fun experience! Pole dancing classes are a great way to get fit. It’s a great full-body workout that can help you build strength and tone your muscles. Not only that, but it also helps with balance, coordination, and flexibility. Plus, it’s a great way to explore your creative side, make some amazing new friends and learn a new skill. If you’re looking for a unique and fun way to stay active, pole dancing classes are definitely worth trying! But be warned Pole Dancing can become extremely ADDICTIVE!

When I went to my first pole class I didn’t know what to expect, it was almost anxiety inducing in a way! I had NO upper body strength, NO flexibility at all and NO idea what to expect but I had the most INCREDIBLE time with the most AMAZING people and here I am almost 7 years later still enjoying every minute and loving it that much that i created my own pole wear line!

So without further or do here are my top 10 tips for those wanting to try their very first pole dancing class:

1: Wear clothing that is comfortable and doesn’t restrict your movement. A Crop or Tee with Shorts/Leggings and socks works great for your first class.

2: Bring a water bottle and a towel to stay hydrated and to help wipe away any sweat.

3: Respect the space and the other dancers in the class. You will normally have your own pole so you will have your own comfortable space to learn and create at your own pace.

4: Listen carefully to the instructor and ask questions if you don’t understand something. The biggest lesson I learnt! If you are unsure for even a second just ask! Your instructor is there to help and ensure you do not injury yourself.

5: Focus on your own progress, rather than comparing yourself to others. Never compare to others, you are on your own journey and every journey is unique.

6: Take breaks as needed and don’t overwork your muscles. This really helps to avoid strain or injuries. Bruising can also be intense when learning new moves so take it slow.

7: Have fun and don’t be afraid to try new moves with the guidance of your instructor.

8: Stretch before and after each class to avoid injury. This is always a MUST!

9: Practice pole dancing regularly to improve your skills – Like I said Pole Dancing can be addictive and you will want to advance as fast as you can! But slow down enjoy the process and take extra classes with qualified instructors to get there.

10: Never be afraid to ask for help if you’re struggling with a move. That is what your instructor is their for and they will give you the most amazing tips and tricks to nail that nemesis move whilst ensuring your safety is a priority.

11: ADDED EXTRA!! If none of the above points convince you to try a class then I definitely recommend going just to meet the most amazing group of people! I swear the pole community is the BEST community and the most welcoming I have ever been apart off! You will make new friends, smash pole goals together and connect with people that enjoy pole dancing as much as you (this is a must as you go more into your journey as non-polers just don’t get it, you’ll find that out, lol)

There are lots of resources available to help make you feel more comfortable and confident. You can find videos and tutorials online, join the most supportive community of pole dancers, or even take private classes to get personalized feedback and guidance. No matter what you choose, you’ll be taking a brave step toward self-expression and building confidence.

So give it a try! You never know, you may just have the most amazing time feeling free, floating in the air and finding out what your body is truly capable off!
